Opening Speech by Her Excellency Marie Bashir AC CVO, Governor of NSW

The new series of Garry Shead exhibition " Love on Mount Pleasant - Garry Shead Toasts Maurice O'Shea" is opened by Her Excellency Marie Bashir AC CVO, Governor of NSW.

Garry Shead captured wonderful new series of boyhood stories in sceneries set upon the greatest winery region in Mount Pleasant where his artistic skill and development was influenced by Maurice O'Shea.

Garry Shead's Love on Mount Pleasant recaptured series of family living located in a lovely and creative environment of wineyard with strong historical content.

Garry depicted the images of the wonderful and beautiful sceneries in Mount Pleasant where the stories of the winery and the marriage, the birds and kangaroos, the historical Australian vernacular and architecture merged beautifully in an environment of vast, romantic landscape settings.

Garry's paintings and its sensitivity in historical context are so wonderfully executed and inspirational to all Australian and the world to see and admire.

The exhibition and the series of paintings in Australian Galleries are full of joy and enlightment which are reflected with greater sense of Australian humour and psyche.

As Her Excellency Marie Bashir AC CVO, Governor of NSW says,"...Each series of works by Garry I have to say stirred new level of Australian humour, universal awareness of interpretation of our Australian psyche and our history."

Garry Shead is one of the most highly acclaimed figurative painters in Australia history. Garry was the winnner of the Archibald Prize Competition in 1993.

This exhibition is highly recommended and not to be missed.
